Features

The timeless style of Nikon’s milestone cameras comes together with our cutting edge imaging technology in the new Nikon Df. The camera features a 16.2-megapixel FX CMOS sensor and the EXPEED 3 image processing engine with an ISO range of 100 – 12800, so you can capture stunning full frame images of exceptional quality every time - all from a camera that is equally exceptional in style and design.

Power behind the looks
Housed in the robust magnesium alloy, weather and dust resistant body of the Df is a 16.2-megapixel FX-format CMOS Sensor and EXPEED 3 image processing engine. The CMOS sensor provides an ISO range of 100 – 12800 (expandable from 50 to 204800) for capturing remarkable pictures with true-to-life colours, even in low light. Furthermore, the image processing power of the EXPEED 3 helps make it all possible, because it has all the power of Nikon’s flagship D4 - providing you with outstanding images at high and low sensitivities.

The ultimate in style and design
Every detail on the Df has been meticulously crafted to create a camera of a timeless design - right down to the matching AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G (Special Edition) lens and the Information Display with the original monotone colour matching the body of the Df. Available in a choice of black or silver, the Df is our smallest and lightest FX format D-SLR yet, weighing in at only 710 grams.

True craftsmanship in the details
The camera has been designed for the ultimate photographic experience, with independent dials for setting shutter speed, ISO sensitivity, exposure compensation, exposure mode and release mode. Each mechanical dial is crafted from solid metal, engraved and painted across the top. The tactile and audio feedback of the dial clicks also offers both precision and speed for total camera control.

Always in the moment
Powering up in a mere 0.14 seconds and a release time lag of approximately 0.05 seconds, you will never miss an opportunity to capture the perfect image. Even the most sensitive situations can be captured with minimal disruption on the Quiet Shutter-Release mode. Compose your images with ease through the glass pentaprism viewfinder, which offers aproximately 100% frame coverage (FX format), so every stunning image is exactly how you see it.

Capture the perfect shot every time
Enjoy compositional freedom with the Df’s 39-point Autofocus (AF) System. Featuring a variety of AF-area modes such as Single point AF, Dynamic-area AF, 3D tracking and Auto-area AF, it ensures quick focusing throughout the frame, even on fast moving subjects. The intelligent Scene Recognition System also works hand-in-hand with the information from 2016-pixel RGB sensor and image sensor to evaluate the scene for precise sharpness and clarity

Take control to the next level
The Info Button gives you the chance to craft your images further, giving you quick access to the functions that match your current photographic situation. Choose and adjust your desired image settings with Picture Control while shooting in live view for greater creative freedom over your images.

Limitless possibilities
Compatible with the full range of Nikon lenses, including non-Al lenses and full support of the Creative Lighting System, wireless accessories, GPS unit and HDMI output, the Df opens up a whole new world of exploration.

Direct, purposeful camera operation to inspire photographers
The Df is a new proposal from Nikon, offering a creative approach to photography. The rapid growth of digital SLRs has been of enormous importance, and the advanced automated operations available today provide photographers with immediate results. However, the pleasure of deliberate creation and control can be lost in the frenzy. One of the fundamental tenets of photography is to search the environment for meaning and then find the right combination of shutter speed and f-stop to appropriately convey it. From the first modern camera nearly a century ago until the recent past, mechanical dials were the favored interface for discovering such combinations, and manipulating them was a skill that became second nature to countless photographers. When Nikon began designing the Df, mechanical operation was the natural choice since it provides the photographer with the tactile pleasure of shooting with precision imageing, inspiring them to be more deliberate with each frame. In addition, the Df delivers the same image quality as the D4, Nikon's flagship D-SLR, but from a much slimmer and lighter body. Photographers can expect flagship image quality from ISO 100 to ISO 12800 — all without a large, cumbersome camera body. This significantly expands creative opportunities, while opening up completely new ones. This camera fuses flagship image quality with tactile precision mechanics for pure photography. With your fingers on the controls, you can think about photography differently, and explore your creative intentions more profoundly. With the Df, you are the photographer, not the camera.

FX format with 16.2-megapixel resolution for photographers who roam
The Df is designed to travel. Photographers will benefit more from the exceptional image quality and wide ISO range by taking the camera with them to more places. After careful consideration of how photographers can best benefit from a camera like the Df, Nikon decided to use an FX-format image sensor with 16.2 effective megapixels. Like the D4, this combination delivers images of exceptional quality in an incredibly diverse range of lighting situations, and the file size was chosen with photographers' needs in mind. Not only can 16.2 effective megapixels deliver superb, commercially usable image quality for A3-size prints, they also work in files that are ideal for handheld shooting and fast image processing, buffering and data management. For many passionate photographers, these are real-world benefits.

Dedicated to high quality still photography
The Df is dedicated to the art of photography, with every circuit and design element optimized for the picture-taking experience. Movie modes, while popular features in most cameras, were intentionally omitted from the Df for two main reasons: simplicity and mobility. Fewer buttons and dials simplify operations and allow the photographer's focus to remain on capturing the still image. Moreover, the absence of movie-making components such as a microphone terminal and a speaker permits the camera to achieve a body size that is smaller, lighter and more mobile, enabling still photographers to carry it for longer distances and durations. Every camera in the Nikon lineup has its place, and the Df is focused on the art of the photograph.
