Recently, because of a greater focus on the environment and energy savings, Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) backlights, have been replaced by LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). LEDs do not have a “glow” period between when the light is turned on and off, and as a result LEDs create a more noticeable flicker effect for many. PWM dimming works the same way in both CCFLs and LEDs but because of this lack of “glow” in LEDs, this may appear more pronounced and obvious to the user, creating a visible flicker.
